Why is the Robin always associated with Christmas?

Have you ever considered why where ever you look come Christmas you will always find this cheeky little bird adorning our cards, shop windows, wrapping paper and much more.

To begin with he was the pagan symbol for the Winter Solstice.
A small bird with a bright red breast singing his heart out as a territorial display. He was considered a symbol of life in those cold dark months.
Then come the 1860's the Victorian postmen wore bright red jackets and were nicknamed 'Robins' and were depicted on our Christmas cards as little robins delivering the mail.

Over the years the Robin has been taken to our hearts. They love to be around humans - especially gardeners watching out for an easy meal.
