It was a very good evening with beer tasting and products to buy.

![]() The speaker for our last meeting was Lizzie Clark (nee Ellis) from Horncastle Ales. A young Brewster full of energy that exudes the love of her found career. She brews at the back of Old Nick's Tavern in Horncastle and although only new to the game she is already winning awards and flew the flag for Lincolnshire at Olympia this year. It was a very good evening with beer tasting and products to buy.

The wonderful thing about our website is that you never know what is going to be the next topic. We often get messages asking for a bit of detective work. Some are still ongoing but this one stumped me and I put out a shout to the 'Boston Memories' page on Facebook. Within in minutes information started to flow in and I can't them them enough for solving this puzzle. This is the message we received:- 'I am doing research for a friend, and according to the 1891 census, John Medforth was Landlord of Poltallah Arms, Frith Bank Road, Sibsey. But this establishment does not get a mention in your wonderful insight to Sibsey- nor can I 'Google' it! Any thoughts would be gratefully received' I had never heard of the Poltallah Arms as far as I knew there had been the White Hart, Trader Inn, Pied Bull, The Ship, The Peacock and the Star. The first suggestion was Sibsey Northlands where Lord Poltalloch held land. Lord Poltalloch was the son of the 14th feudal baron of Poltalloch in Argyll, educated at Eton and became MP for Boston in 1860, he resigned in 1878, after several other parliamentary posts he was raised to the peerage of Baron Malcom of Prltallochin 1896. In 1870 he played football for Scotland in the 1st unofficial England v Scotland International. He married Alice daughter of the 4th Baron Boston. He died 1902 in France, because both his marriages had been childless the Barony became extinct. Several people mentioned The Malcolm Arms (once called the Oak Tree) on Frith Bank at Anton'Gowt. In the 1901 census it shows that Anton's Gowt came under the Civil Parish of Sibsey, the Rural District of Sibsey but the Hamlet of Frith Bank. Thanks to a great idea of checking Ancestry it was ascertained that John Medforth was innkeeper of an inn on Frith Bank from 1871-1911 census years. In 1871 and 1881 its unnamed, in 1891 it is called Poltallah Arms [written as recorded, but obviously intends Poltalloch], and thereafter the Malcolm Arms. Not quite sure why its recorded as Poltallah as its recorded on an 1887 map of Frith Bank as Malcolm Arms. I wish to thank everybody that assisted in the solving of this puzzle.
Recently we were given a new photograph for our archive and what a blast from the past. Several names have been attached to faces and some of our long standing members been extremely helpful, with their memories. However we still need to name a few of our ladies. So if you know the names of any please send us a message.
