What do you have 'Down at the Bottom of the Garden'?
That was the theme at this years Lincolnshire Show for the WI co-operative.
Members had to arrive early to set up their display in the big tent. A small sub-committee have been beavering away for weeks to make this beautiful display, comprising of a beehive cake complete with bees, a floral display and a quilted hanging. They did not win but thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

The evening began with a sprig of leaves. Not very interesting you may say but it  was Euonymus europaeus or the Spindle Tree.
A very apt beginning to a very enjoyable evening.

After the business of the evening, including our delegates report of the Cardiff Conference. We were introduced to our speakers - Julie and Serena. A couple of school mums that became friends and started a business. They Take a Scrap of Fabric and reuse, re-purpsose, reinvent, recycle vintage fabrics and felts into beautiful objects. As well as going around groups like ourselves giving talks and demonstrations.

Ideal projects for crafty people, for young mums in occupying their children during a school break or grandmothers having fun with the grandchildren.
Either way the evening was very interesting , informative and entertaining.
As promised our 'nudies' turned into an array of lovely dressed pegs dolls.

Now pub quizzers what is the connection between Euonyomous and our meeting? The wood from this tree is used to make spindles and pegs.

Bears for Peru

We are helping Broughton Gifford WI in Wiltshire to knit some little bears to be taken out to Peru.
Col.Blashford-Snell and Shirley Critchley are taking an expedition out to Peru next year.

The Spectacled Bears are in danger and they want to highlight this by taking the knitted bears to Peru and give them to children. My pattern is for an ordinary bear so spectacles need to be sewn on them. If anyone is interested in helping please message us with your email address and we will forward the pattern to you and let you know where to send the bears to.              Thank you
