It is with great sadness that we have to say goodbye to Hazel. Although not well she was an inspiration to us all. Still a hands-on member of our Institute. She was a committee members who was always coming up with good ideas. She was warm, funny, emotional and dedicated. Her love of cooking inspired her to start the Recipe tree - found in the room during meetings and many can be found on our website. Her love of craft championed the remake of our WI Presidents table cloth which is to be completed for our 80th birthday celebrations this year. If she could do it she loved to be part of it. She will be someone we shall all miss. RIP Hazel xx
As we come to the end of our year what better way to finish with an Award Winning Independent Butcher.
With the the WI Campaign supporting the High Street Jim Sutcliffe from Meridian Meats showed us that the High Street is fighting back.
Assisted by his wife he demonstrated the process of making the famous Lincolnshire Sausage. Using a family recipe 100 years old he explained how and why the traditional Lincolnshire sausage can never be the same as the mass produced sausage of the same name and just deserves status.
However, small independent traders cannot compete with the money of big business but they can excel with their the quality, skill and expertise.
Meridian Meats is a family run butchers who farm Longhorn cattle and rare breed sheep. They are Lincolnshire's only Traditional Breeds Accredited Family Butchers (specialising in high quality meats from rare and traditional native breeds) and they are also members of the Guild of Quality Butchers. All their sausages are now Gluten Free.
At the end of the evening we were able to purchase those freshly made sausage. I cannot wait for the delicious smell of freshly cooked sausages as I cook them for my tea tonight.
